Truist Park at the Atlanta Battery is the newest of the Braves’ home fields in the last 50 years. The exit off I-75 is well-marked, and traffic moves quickly and orderly. The Park is the perfect blend of classic baseball feel, modern amenities, and southern hospitality. It seats 41,000, and no seat is a bad one. The food inside the ballpark is diverse. The beer and other beverages are abundant… and yes. You can get a hot dog and a bag of peanuts!

Anchored by Truist Park, The Battery Atlanta is a sports and entertainment complex rivaling the best in America. There are plenty of places to eat, drink, and shop. There are nightclubs and other music venues. A great spot for breakfast or just to get a cup of coffee is Goldberg’s Bagels. Parking is at a premium. It is recommended that if you are going to a game, that fans lock down parking before you go.

Onsite is an Omni Hotel where my wife and I chose to stay for a few days. Parking was no trouble, and you are a mere two-minute walk to all the excitement. From our 12th-floor hotel room, we could see into centerfield. The night before the game we attended, we witnessed a walk-off grand slam home run in the bottom of the ninth that saw fans jumping with glee. Only moments before, a large contingent of people left early. Those that remained were the lucky ones!

You know you are getting old when the grandson of one of your heroes is playing. Carl Yastremski, the Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer and Triple Crown winner, was one of my favorite players in the 1970s and early 1980s. His grandson, Mike, a Vanderbilt alumnus and veteran of seven major league seasons, plays left field for the Braves. We sat right behind him, watching as he waited to pounce on a ball in his direction, all the while spitting out sunflower seeds in a circle around him.
